President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said today, Wednesday, that appointing state trustees to replace elected mayors will become a rare occurrence if the armed Kurdistan Workers' Party decides to dissolve itself. Erdogan made these remarks in front of members of the Justice and Development Party in parliament. Turkey intends to appoint trustees to manage municipalities instead of Kurdish-supported mayors after their election, due to allegations of their ties to the Kurdistan Workers' Party. This measure has also been implemented with mayors from the main opposition party.
