The Egyptian Foreign Minister Emphasizes the Necessity of Preserving Syria's Unity on the Sidelines of the "United Nations"

As part of the activities of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Minister Badr Abdel Atty, the Egyptian Foreign Minister, held a meeting with his Syrian counterpart, Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates.

A statement issued by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that Minister Abdel Atty reviewed during the meeting "Egypt's firm position regarding the necessity of preserving Syria's unity and the integrity of its territories."

The statement added that the Egyptian minister emphasized "support for the national state institutions in Syria, ensuring the restoration of its full sovereignty and safeguarding the rights of the Syrian people." He affirmed that "the political path with the participation of all components of the Syrian people represents a fundamental pillar for achieving sustainable stability."

Abdel Atty also pointed out that "the restoration of Syria's vitality and its natural role within its Arab and regional environment is a fundamental goal that enhances Arab national security," considering this a motivation to continue "efforts to combat terrorism and extremism."

In addition, the Egyptian minister reiterated "his country's firm rejection of the repeated Israeli violations of Syrian sovereignty." He warned of "the dangers of attempts to exploit the current situation to justify external interventions."

The statement concluded with Abdel Atty affirming that Egypt "continues in its regional and international communications to emphasize the necessity of respecting Syria's unity and its full sovereignty, and rejecting any attempts to undermine its security and stability."
