A circulating video on social media has sparked a wave of concern among the residents of Azbat Wasef in the village of Amrit, Abu Hammad Center, Sharqia Governorate, after news spread about the appearance of a crocodile in a water drain in the village, reminding everyone of the crocodile incident in the village of Al-Zawamil last month.
The circulated video showed a dark object moving in the water of the drain, prompting residents to warn against approaching, especially children, and calling for the relevant authorities to intervene quickly and verify the authenticity of the video.
A responsible source confirmed to local media that the relevant authorities are currently examining the video to determine when and where it was filmed and its credibility, in preparation for taking necessary actions.
The source added that the agency is taking reports seriously to ensure the safety of citizens and will coordinate with the relevant authorities once the presence of any predatory creatures is confirmed.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing an object resembling a crocodile, calling for intensified inspection campaigns on water drains and urgent preventive measures.
It is worth noting that the Minister of Local Development and Acting Minister of Environment, Dr. Manal Awad, previously announced the success of the crocodile hunting unit in capturing a crocodile in the village of Al-Zawamil after extensive searches, in cooperation with the relevant authorities, where the operation took place in the Belbeis public drain with the participation of a technical committee from Sharqia Governorate, the Veterinary Medicine Directorate, the Environmental Management, the regional branch of the Environmental Affairs Agency, and the river rescue team from the Sharqia Security Directorate.
Residents are now awaiting confirmation from the authorities regarding the authenticity of the video, amid a state of anticipation and concern for the safety of the village and its waters.
