The Egyptian Ministry of Civil Aviation announced today, Saturday, that a limited number of flights arriving at Cairo, Hurghada, and Sphinx airports have been affected due to the cyber attack targeting information technology systems at several European airports.
An official statement clarified that Cairo Airport experienced delays in flights coming from Heathrow (London), Brussels, Berlin, and Luton in Ireland, in addition to delays in flights from foreign airlines heading to Hurghada and Sphinx airports, confirming that flights from Egyptian airlines were not affected.
The statement indicated that the attack targeted systems belonging to the American company Collins Aerospace, which led to a temporary disruption of check-in and take-off programs at major European airports, including Heathrow, Brussels, Berlin, Dublin, and Cork, forcing those airports to rely on manual procedures.
For his part, Egyptian Minister of Civil Aviation Samah Hefni directed to raise the level of operational readiness and enhance precautionary measures at all Egyptian airports, affirming the ministry's commitment to ensuring the smooth flow of air traffic and monitoring the situation continuously through the central operations room.
The ministry also urged passengers on foreign airlines to check their updated flight schedules via airline applications, emphasizing its readiness to respond quickly to any developments.
