The spokesperson for the Egyptian Ministry of Irrigation, Mohamed Ghanem, confirmed that the flooding of agricultural lands on the banks of the Nile River was a result of discharging large quantities of water from the High Dam in preparation for the upcoming flood from Ethiopia and Sudan.
He explained that the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam managed the water haphazardly, which forced Egypt to empty the reservoir of the High Dam to avoid greater damage, noting that the affected lands are natural floodplain areas and not entire governorates as circulated in the media.
The ministry warned that encroachments on the river's course affect the natural discharge of the Nile and harm farmers and economic activity, emphasizing that water resource management is carried out with high efficiency to ensure the protection of lives and property.
