The Civil Defense in Gaza reported on Thursday evening that more than 40 people are still under the rubble following an Israeli airstrike that targeted a residential home in the Sabra neighborhood south of Gaza City.
The statement mentioned that rescue teams have been continuing search and retrieval operations for hours amidst widespread destruction in the targeted building and damage to neighboring homes, noting that the death toll is expected to rise as rescue operations continue.
This escalation comes at a sensitive time, following the agreement recently reached in Egypt, which was supposed to pave the way for a ceasefire and alleviate the suffering of civilians, raising questions about the future commitment to the terms of the agreement and its chances of success amid ongoing airstrikes.
