Cancellation of government grants for private universities in Syria starting from the academic year 2025–2026

Dr. Mohammed Al-Suwaid, Assistant Minister of Higher Education for Private Education Affairs and Chairman of the Digital Transformation Committee, announced that the Higher Education Council decided in its last session to cancel the grants allocated to private universities starting from the academic year 2025–2026.
Al-Suwaid explained that the decision comes within the framework of organizing university admissions and enhancing fairness and equal opportunities among students, while directing support towards public universities as they are the primary incubators for higher education and scientific research in Syria.
He pointed out that private universities will continue to provide their educational services according to their systems and fees, with the ministry's continued supervision and oversight to ensure the quality of education, without allocating grant seats or supported competitions from the ministry.
