OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, has revealed dismantling electronic hacking networks linked to entities from Russia, China, Iran, North Korea, and the Philippines, which exploited artificial intelligence tools for cyber threats. According to a report by TheHackerNews, OpenAI stated that it disrupted accounts used by Russian-speaking groups to develop malicious software for Windows systems, correct programming errors, and establish control and command infrastructures. The company named this campaign ScopeCreep and confirmed using advanced camouflage techniques such as temporary accounts, Base64 encryption, and PowerShell commands to steal credential data, profile files, and send automatic notifications via Telegram. The company also disclosed that Chinese groups associated with APT5 and APT15 used ChatGPT for open-source research, developing tools to breach FTP servers, distribute Android applications, and automate deception campaigns on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. North Korea utilized artificial intelligence to forge employment documents in the technology field, while a Filipino group launched thousands of directed political comments. The report also revealed possible Russian activity targeting the 2025 German elections, and an Iranian group using models to support political narratives and separatist movements. The report mentioned the "Wrong Number" operation involving entities in Cambodia and China, targeting job seekers with multilingual fraudulent recruitment messages within complex digital fraud structures aiming for financial gains. In conclusion, OpenAI called for increased international vigilance to deter the exploitation of artificial intelligence in growing cyber security threats.
