American B-1 Lancer bombers have landed at "RAF Fairford" airbase in the United Kingdom, in a move that has garnered international attention following a dispute between U.S. President Donald Trump and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer regarding the use of British bases by the United States.
Images published by the BBC showed the bombers arriving on Friday evening. These aircraft are among the fastest in the U.S. Air Force, reaching speeds of over 900 miles per hour, with the capability to carry up to 24 cruise missiles. They are also equipped with advanced radar and navigation systems, electronic jamming devices, and radar warning systems to protect them from hostile attacks.
London is Considering Its Military Options Towards Iran
In the context of regional tensions, British Defense Minister Ben Wallace did not rule out the participation of British forces in potential airstrikes on Iran. He stated during an interview with Sky News while visiting Cyprus: "As circumstances change in any conflict, you must be ready to adapt the action you take."
Starmer also announced on Thursday the deployment of four additional Typhoon fighter jets to Qatar, amid rising tensions in the Middle East, asserting that Britain has the "right defense plan."
Nevertheless, British caution regarding the Iranian crisis and drone attacks on its main military base in Cyprus has raised questions among London’s partners about its military effectiveness, while President Trump criticized Starmer for not providing sufficient support for his strikes on Iran.
