Araqchi had returned on Sunday to Pakistan, which is leading mediation efforts between Iran and the United States, after a visit to Muscat, as part of a regional tour during which he presents the latest developments related to ongoing talks with the American side.
Second Visit to Islamabad After Cancellation of Trump Envoys' Visit
Araqchi's second visit to Islamabad over the weekend came after U.S. President Donald Trump canceled a visit that was scheduled for his envoys Steve Biegun and Jared Kushner, amid a lack of breakthroughs to end the war that erupted on February 28.
Iran Sends Written Messages to Washington via Pakistan
In an indication of ongoing indirect efforts, the Fars news agency reported that Iran sent "written messages" to the United States via Pakistan, which included what it described as "the red lines of the Islamic Republic," covering nuclear issues and the Strait of Hormuz, while emphasizing that these messages are not part of official negotiations.
Upcoming Meeting Between Araqchi and Putin to Discuss Ceasefire
For its part, the official Iranian news agency IRNA reported that Araqchi arrived in Russia early Monday with the aim of meeting President Vladimir Putin and conducting talks with him, while the Iranian ambassador in Moscow, Kazem Jalali, confirmed that the meeting would take place on the same day.
Iranian-Russian Consultations on Negotiation Developments and External Threats
Jalali explained that Araqchi would discuss with Russian officials the latest developments in negotiations and the ceasefire, in addition to regional developments, noting that he would provide a detailed report on the progress of talks, as part of what he described as "diplomatic jihad" to defend Iran's interests in light of external threats.
Tehran and Moscow Confirm Facing Western Hegemony
The Iranian ambassador considered that his country and Russia form a "united front" against what he described as "globally dominant powers," which oppose the establishment of an international system free from unipolarity and Western hegemony, according to his expression.
The Kremlin Confirms the Meeting Between Putin and Araqchi
For its part, the Kremlin confirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin would meet with Iranian Foreign Minister, as the spokesperson for the Russian presidency Dmitry Peskov stated to TASS agency saying: "Yes," in response to a question about the possibility of holding the meeting.
Increasing Closeness Between Russia and Iran Amid Western Sanctions
It is noteworthy that relations between Russia and Iran have seen significant closeness in recent years, amid both countries being subjected to strict Western sanctions, which has pushed them to enhance cooperation in various fields.
