Nasser Mohamed, the father of the six siblings who died of a mysterious illness in Minya Governorate in Upper Egypt, passed away yesterday, Friday, just a few days after the death of his daughter Farah, who was the sole survivor among them.
Nasser Mohamed was transferred from Minya Hospital to Assiut University Hospital for treatment, underwent a series of detailed tests and examinations, and samples were sent to the Ministry of Health laboratories to try to determine the cause of his illness, but he took his last breath and joined his six children.
The father's death adds to the mystery of this incident that shook public opinion in Egypt, as his daughter Farah died days ago after the deaths of her five siblings one after the other, without clear reasons for the deaths. The authorities are intensifying their investigations to uncover the circumstances of this tragic event.
The children's uncle confirmed that the child Farah informed him that the siblings had eaten a meal including 'sun bread', after which they felt nauseous. The first child then started to have a high fever and was taken to the hospital, followed by the second and third with the same symptoms within a few hours.
Health authorities have been working for days to solve the mystery of the deaths of the six children, and the Ministry of Health issued a statement denying that the cause of death was meningitis, confirming that this rumor is unfounded.
The ministry also confirmed, after field and laboratory investigations including reviewing patient records and home visits, that there was no increase in infectious disease rates in the area, further deepening the mystery of the case and placing it within the framework of ongoing investigation.
