A U.S. Court Allows Trump to End Legal Protection for 60,000 Immigrants

A U.S. federal appeals court decided on Wednesday, August 20, to pave the way for President Donald Trump's administration to end the temporary deportation protection program and revoke work permits for more than 60,000 immigrants from Nicaragua, Honduras, and Nepal.
The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals issued its ruling that "allows the government to terminate the temporary protected status for immigrants from Nicaragua, Honduras, and Nepal, while the legal challenge to this policy is considered." It is noteworthy that "the three judges who signed the order did not provide any legal explanation" for their decision.
This ruling is set to take effect immediately, as the protected status for Nepalese immigrants ends immediately after it had already expired on August 5. In contrast, the protected status for citizens of Honduras and Nicaragua is scheduled to expire on September 8, putting thousands of families at risk of immediate deportation.
