In a scene that reflects the depth of Syrian coexistence, His Beatitude Patriarch John X, Patriarch of Antioch and all the East for the Greek Orthodox, met today, Sunday, with His Excellency Mufti Sheikh Osama Rifai at the Ministry of Awqaf in Damascus, in the presence of Minister of Awqaf Muhammad Abu al-Khayr Shukri, during an official visit that carried messages of profound spiritual and humanitarian importance.
Mutual Congratulations and Affirmation of the Historical Relationship
Patriarch John X congratulated Mufti Rifai on assuming his position, emphasizing the deep historical relationship that connects the Patriarchate and the Fatwa House, which has always been a model of religious brotherhood in Syria.
For his part, the Mufti welcomed the Patriarch and the accompanying delegation, affirming that Muslims and Christians in Syria are "one family in one homeland," in a sincere expression of the unity of the national fabric.
An Open Religious Discourse and Confronting Extremism
The meeting addressed the importance of promoting an open religious discourse and rejecting all forms of extremism and intolerance, with a focus on instilling the values of citizenship and coexistence, not only at the official level but also deeply within the grassroots.
It was emphasized that the relationship between Muslims and Christians in Syria is not merely coexistence but a historical partnership manifested in positions and living examples throughout time.
