16 people were injured, including ten students, today Tuesday, in a shooting incident that occurred inside a vocational high school in Şanlıurfa province in southeast Turkey, according to local authorities.

The governor of the region stated that the incident took place in the city of Siverek at around 09:30 AM local time, where an assailant opened fire inside the school before turning the weapon on himself and committing suicide at the scene.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the attacker was a former student of the school, with motives not yet disclosed, while security authorities have begun their investigations into the incident.

This type of incident is relatively rare in Turkey, despite the widespread availability of firearms, many of which are estimated to be unlicensed, raising recurring concerns about public safety.

Turkish authorities continue to collect evidence and interview witnesses to determine the circumstances and possible causes of the incident.
