The Syrian Transitional Government has appointed Dr. Marwan Jameel Al-Halabi as the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, as part of the new ministerial lineup aimed at enhancing educational and research institutions in the post-previous regime era. Dr. Marwan Al-Halabi - New Syrian Minister of Higher Education's Biography Dr. Marwan Al-Halabi was born in Quneitra Governorate in 1964, and is one of the leading academic figures in Syria, with over thirty years of experience in the fields of reproductive medicine, embryology, and medical genetics. Al-Halabi serves as the Head of the Anatomy, Histology, and Embryology Department at the Faculty of Medicine, Damascus University, in addition to his role as a university professor and an expert in biological and medical research. Educational Qualifications and International Achievements - Holds a Ph.D. in Reproductive Medicine and Genetics from France. - Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, Damascus University. - Director of the Biological Therapies Research Center at Damascus University. - Published over 60 peer-reviewed scientific papers and authored 5 specialized books in the fields of medical genetics and embryology. - Participated in prestigious international medical conferences as a member and lecturer in associations such as: - European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) - American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) - Arab Union of Obstetrics and Gynecology Previous Positions and Responsibilities - Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Damascus University (for Scientific Affairs - 2020). - President of the Syrian Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. - President of the Arab Federation of Obstetrics Associations. - Medical Director of the Fertility Unit at Al-Sharq Hospital in Damascus. Goals and Challenges of the New Phase The Minister Al-Halabi is expected to play a pivotal role in reforming higher education in Syria by: - Updating university curricula. - Enhancing scientific research and innovation. - Developing medical education and raising the standards of medical colleges. - Supporting Syrian students inside and outside the country. - Building partnerships with international universities and research centers.
