Amnesty International called on Thursday for an armed group in the province to immediately disclose the fate and whereabouts of rescue worker Hamza Al-Amarin, head of the Civil Defense Center in Daraa, and to release him unconditionally and return him to his family.
Al-Amarin had traveled to the city of Sweida on July 16, 2025, in response to a request from the United Nations for assistance in rescue operations following violent clashes in the area.
According to his family's account, he managed to make a brief call to his wife the next morning, reassuring her by saying: "I am in Sweida, I am fine but take care of yourselves," before the call was cut off completely since then.
Since his disappearance, human rights demands have continued for the disclosure of his detention location and ensuring his safety, while the Syrian Civil Defense considers the continued disappearance of Al-Amarin a flagrant violation of humanitarian principles that protect aid workers.
