In a new development regarding the escalating situation on the eastern European border, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced today, Wednesday, that its armed forces did not plan or target any sites within Polish territory, at a time when the United States confirmed its full support for NATO allies following the incident of breaching Polish airspace.
The ministry stated in an official statement: "There was no planning to target sites within Poland," clarifying that the range of the Russian drones allegedly crossing into Polish territory does not exceed 700 kilometers.
For his part, the U.S. ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker confirmed, via the platform "X" (formerly Twitter), that Washington stands firmly alongside its allies in the face of the violations that occurred in Polish airspace, emphasizing that defending every inch of NATO territory is a non-negotiable priority.
In the same context, the Kremlin refused to make any official comment regarding the breach of Polish airspace by drones, merely stating that this matter falls under the jurisdiction of the Russian Ministry of Defense.
The Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov pointed out that the daily accusations directed at Russia by leaders of the European Union and NATO "often come without providing evidence or justification."
For its part, Poland, which is a member of NATO, announced that it had detected 19 breaches of its airspace and shot down at least three drones last night, prompting Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk to call for urgent talks with NATO allies to coordinate a response to these violations.
In a diplomatic move, Poland summoned the Russian chargé d'affaires Andrei Ordash to provide clarifications regarding the incident, but the latter denied any connection of Russia to these drones, claiming they launched from the Ukrainian side, without providing evidence to support this claim.
This escalation reflects the ongoing tension in the region, amid international warnings of the conflict's exacerbation and its impact on Europe's stability.
