Villarreal Snatches Renato Vega from Chelsea in Historic Deal

The Spanish club Villarreal announced today, Friday, that it has officially signed Portuguese defender Renato Vega from English club Chelsea, on a long-term contract lasting up to seven seasons.
The deal is valued at around 24 million euros, in addition to variables and other incentives, making it one of the most expensive transfers in the history of the "Yellow Submarine".
Vega (22 years old) had moved to Chelsea last summer from Swiss club Basel, but he did not get enough opportunities with the London team, managing only one appearance in the English Premier League before being loaned to Italian club Juventus during the second half of last season.
The Portuguese defender caught the eye with "the Old Lady" and contributed to his national team's victory in the UEFA Nations League title last June, making him an attractive target for several European clubs.
Villarreal is counting on Vega's addition to strengthen its defense in preparation for its upcoming participation in the Champions League, after finishing last season in "La Liga" in fifth place.
