UN Secretary-General Warns of Escalation of Tensions Following US Strikes on Iran

UN Secretary-General António Guterres expressed his "grave concern over the US's use of force against Iran", warning that this escalation represents "a direct threat to international peace and security".
His statement came in response to US President Donald Trump's announcement of the destruction of three key Iranian nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Arak.
Guterres affirmed in a statement issued by his spokesperson that "this escalation is dangerous in a region already suffering from severe tensions", expressing concerns about "the Israeli-Iranian conflict spiraling out of control, potentially leading to catastrophic consequences for civilians in the region and the world".
He called on UN member states to "de-escalate and fulfill their obligations under the UN Charter and international law", emphasizing that "this critical moment requires avoiding the chaos spiral".
Guterres stressed that "the military solution is not an option, and the only way forward is diplomacy", concluding his remarks by saying: "The only hope is peace".
