The secret marriage of Um Kulthum ignites controversy: Reality or fiction??
Um Kulthum, the "Star of the East," continues to stir controversy even decades after her passing, this time due to the mystery surrounding her marriage;
Her grandson, Khaled El Beltagui, made a shocking revelation that his grandmother did not marry only once as commonly believed, but twice. The first marriage was kept secret and not announced, while the second took place in 1954 to her personal physician, Hassan El Hafezawi, who remained by her side until her death.
However, this statement did not go unnoticed, as her other grandson, Adli El Beltagui, strongly denied it, confirming that Um Kulthum only married once, to El Hafezawi.
He revealed that before her marriage, she had a brief engagement with Sharif Pasha Sabri, King Farouk's uncle. However, the King's sisters strongly opposed this relationship, leading Um Kulthum to end it despite Farouk's attempts to convince them to give her a chance.
Did the Star of the East hide a secret marriage unknown to anyone? Or are these just conflicting narratives?
The truth remains a mystery in the life of the Arab singing legend.
