The death of the famous Turkish influencer Nil Tchandan, at the age of 30, sparked a wave of sadness and sympathy in Turkey, after a bitter struggle with anorexia nervosa, which led to a severe deterioration in her health and a weight loss to only 23 kilograms, resulting in her death.
Nil, who started her career as a bold contestant on the reality show "Bu Tarz Benim" on TV 8, chose fame over practicing law despite studying it at Beykent University in Istanbul.
Over time, she built a large fan base on social media, focusing on fashion and lifestyle.
Her battle with illness began after her and her sister's arrest in November 2023 in a fraud and money laundering case, where she was accused of defrauding around 10 million Turkish lira from 13 people through a fake car auction scheme, without delivering the vehicles or returning the money.
During her detention, she developed anorexia nervosa, leading to a decline in her physical and mental health, with her weight dropping to 37 kilograms, and she was later released with a medical report.
Despite her efforts to rebuild her life after her release, including celebrating her birthday, her condition continued to deteriorate, until she became completely dependent on life support devices, according to her mother, Amut Tchandan, as reported by the media.
In her final days, she suffered a second heart crisis, and despite doctors' attempts to revive her, she passed away in the intensive care unit and was buried on Sunday in the family cemetery.
The moment of announcing her death was very emotional, as a video circulated showing her sister screaming in agony upon learning the news, and her friend Sela Dogu posted a message confirming her death, saying: "We lost Nil".
Amidst the crisis, her father, Professor Hakan Tchandan, suffered a severe heart crisis due to the psychological pressure associated with her condition, further adding to the family's ordeal.
