Trump Administration Lays Off Hundreds of Federal Employees Following Government Shutdown

In the wake of the government shutdown currently affecting the United States, after Congress failed to pass the budget bill, informed sources revealed that President Donald Trump's administration has begun laying off hundreds of employees working at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and several other federal agencies.
The sources reported that the laid-off employees received notifications via email last Friday evening, informing them that their jobs had become "unnecessary" or "almost identical" to tasks being performed in other sectors of the agency, according to the "New York Times" on Saturday.
The exact number of employees affected by this move has not been precisely determined, but initial estimates suggest that the layoffs have affected more than 4,000 employees across seven major federal agencies. These actions included over 1,400 employees in the Department of the Treasury, and about 1,200 employees in the Department of Health and Human Services, with notifications beginning to reach some employees at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention by the end of Friday.
For his part, President Trump announced on Friday that his administration "has begun a new round of federal employee layoffs" following the government shutdown, as part of a plan aimed at "reducing the civilian workforce and pressuring Democrats to accept his financial demands," according to the newspaper.
It is worth noting that the ongoing government shutdown has led to the suspension of work for hundreds of thousands of federal employees, including those in the Department of Health and Human Services, which oversees the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
