On Friday, thousands of supporters of Gyanendra Shah, the former King of Nepal, gathered outside the capital's Kathmandu airport, demanding the restoration of the monarchy that was abolished in the country.
Welcoming the King
King Gyanendra Shah waved to the crowds from the sunroof of his car, amid cheers and chants from his supporters saying, "Bring back the king, we love our king more than ourselves, restore constitutional monarchy," according to the Associated Press.
Security Reinforcement
Hundreds of police in riot gear were deployed at the entrance of Tribhuvan International Airport in an attempt to control the crowds, which remained peaceful with no arrests reported.
The Route to the Residence
More supporters lined the road from the airport to the king's private residence, reflecting the loyalty of a broad base of the public to Gyanendra Shah, who returned from a trip to eastern Nepal.
