The U.S. Treasury Department Discusses with Syria the Reintegration of the Economy into the International Financial System

This came during an official meeting held today in Washington, which brought together Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shibani with U.S. officials, including Special Envoy Tom Barak, where both parties discussed mechanisms for financial and economic cooperation, and ways to ease restrictions that hinder investment and international transfers to Syria.
This meeting is considered a significant step in the path of political and economic openness between Damascus and Washington, especially after increasing calls within Congress to reconsider the sanctions imposed on Syria, foremost among them the Caesar Act.
The Treasury Department confirmed that any future steps will be taken under strict controls to ensure that funds do not leak to illegal entities, with a focus on supporting vital sectors that serve civilians and contribute to reconstruction.
