Mohammad Alaa Ghanem, the Director of Government Relations at the Syrian-American Council, said today, Saturday, that joint efforts with members from both parties in the U.S. Senate have resulted in the introduction of a legislative measure aimed at completely repealing the sanctions laws imposed on Syria.
Ghanem explained in a post on the "X" platform that the laws date back to 2003 and 2012, and although their effects are frozen by decisions from the Treasury and Commerce Departments, efforts are underway to permanently repeal them within a clear legal framework.
He added that this step comes as part of a review of old punitive policies and opens the door to new approaches in dealing with the Syrian file.
