The Iranian Parliament Prepares a Draft Law for Withdrawal from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty in Response to International Sanctions

A spokesperson for the National Security Committee in the Iranian Parliament revealed that the council is currently preparing legislation that may pave the way for the country's withdrawal from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, in response to the recent United Nations decision to reimpose sanctions.
This was stated by Ibrahim Rezaei, the spokesperson for the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, who explained that the legislative body has "settled on a draft legislative text" in this regard, according to what was reported by the Tasnim International News Agency on Monday.
Rezaei pointed out that this step comes as a reaction to "Israeli and American attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities last June, and the reactivation of UN sanctions at the beginning of the week".
The parliamentary spokesperson highlighted the main justification for this direction by saying: "Under these circumstances, the parliament sees no justification for Iran to remain a member of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty".
However, Rezaei clarified that "the draft legislation has not yet been included on the official agenda of the parliament", which means that the project is still in its early stages.
This development comes at a time when Tehran continues to deny seeking to make a nuclear bomb, asserting that its nuclear program is purely for peaceful purposes.
