The Arab League Ministerial Council issued a statement during its meeting in Cairo, with the presence of the Syrian Foreign Minister, Asaad al-Shibani, praising Damascus and considering it "a unified Arab stance supporting Syria and its people in its transitional phase."

Emphasis on Syrian sovereignty and combating foreign interventions

The statement emphasized "the unity of Syrian territories and its sovereignty," while respecting the will of the Syrian people in building their new state.

The Council also condemned foreign interventions targeting Syria's stability, noting that its security is an essential part of Arab collective security.

Condemnation of Israeli attacks and a call for action by the Security Council

The statement denounced repeated Israeli attacks, especially in Mount Hermon, the countryside of Damascus, Quneitra, and Daraa, describing them as a blatant violation of international law and the Disengagement Agreement (1974). The Security Council was urged to take urgent action to stop these violations.

Support for the transitional phase and lifting sanctions

The Council expressed full support for the Syrian transitional government and called for the lifting of unilateral sanctions imposed on Syria, considering their easing a positive step to accelerate national recovery and facilitate the return of refugees. Donor countries were also urged to fulfill their financial commitments towards humanitarian work.

Condemnation of acts of violence and support for international cooperation

The statement condemned the attacks carried out by "remnants of the former regime" in the Syrian coast, describing them as attempts to destabilize security, while praising the efforts of the army and security agencies in maintaining stability. It also commended the cooperation between Syria and the United Nations in humanitarian issues, affirming the role of the Arab League in supporting reconstruction.

Syrian Foreign Ministry's response: A step towards enhancing Arab partnership

The Syrian Foreign Ministry welcomed the statement, considering it the result of diplomatic efforts to restore Syria's position in its Arab surroundings. It affirmed that this stance "enhances opportunities to build strategic partnerships respecting the sovereignty of states," expressing its determination to continue cooperation with brothers to achieve regional stability.
