In its first official response to U.S. President Donald Trump's State of the Union address, Tehran attacked what it described as "misleading narratives" regarding its nuclear program and regional policies, considering the American accusations part of a systematic campaign to tarnish Iran's image.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei stated, “Repeating claims does not turn them into facts,” referring to what he deemed an exaggeration of Iran's nuclear and missile capabilities. Baghaei recalled the saying of Nazi propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels about repeating a lie, asserting that Washington and its allies employ the same approach in their rhetoric towards Tehran.

Debate Over Nuclear and Missile Issues
During his address to Congress, Trump reiterated that he would not allow Iran to possess nuclear weapons, describing it as “the world's leading state sponsor of terrorism.” He also accused Tehran of working to develop long-range missiles that could potentially reach U.S. territory and of being involved in attacks that resulted in American casualties.
In response, the Iranian spokesman emphasized that his country's nuclear program is intended for civilian purposes, denying accusations related to the development of intercontinental missiles, and considering the figures circulating about the casualties from recent unrest to be “exaggerated and not based on reliable sources.”
Military Escalation and Negotiation Pressures
The political exchanges coincide with U.S. military reinforcements in the Middle East, amid reports of preparations for a potential escalation scenario if diplomatic efforts falter. Trump expressed frustration with the negotiation process, stating that his country has not received a clear commitment from Tehran to refrain from pursuing nuclear weapons.
Amid a speech adopting a deterrent tone from Washington and counter-denial and accusation messages from Tehran, the crisis appears poised for further tension in the absence of decisive indicators of a near breakthrough.
