The Syrian Ministry of Education held an official meeting at its headquarters in Damascus today, Monday, with a delegation from the International Labour Organization and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), to discuss ways to develop the vocational and technical education system in the country.

Present at the meeting were Suzan Harastani, Director of Vocational and Technical Education, and Hussein Hassan, Director of Planning and Statistics, where the current state of vocational education in Syria was reviewed, including the number of secondary schools and technical institutes, the teaching staff, and the mechanisms of work during the secondary stage and beyond.

The meeting focused on the main challenges facing this sector, emphasizing the importance of training and qualifying vocational teachers and enhancing their competencies, which positively reflects on the quality of education, in addition to discussing mechanisms for rehabilitating damaged vocational schools and putting them back into service after a comprehensive assessment of the field reality.

This meeting comes as part of a series of previous meetings held by the ministry with international delegations from Turkey and Germany, as part of its efforts to exchange experiences and develop the educational infrastructure in line with the needs of the local and international labor market.
