"Syrian Revolution Films" inaugurates the first event of the "Liberation Era" cinematic series

Under the slogan "Cinema that expresses the pains and aspirations of the people", the General Organization for Cinema will launch on the coming Monday at the Opera House in Damascus the "Syrian Revolution Films" event, as the first cinematic event in the "Liberation Era", according to what was announced during a press conference held on Thursday in the multi-purpose hall of the Opera House.
The director of the organization, Jihad Abdo, confirmed during the conference that "the event represents an exceptional occurrence in the journey of Syrian cinema, as the participating films embody the pains and aspirations of the Syrian people". He explained that the program includes "a selected package of narrative and documentary films that meet the standards of artistic quality and human depth".
For her part, the head of the organizing committee, Dr. Lama Tayara, revealed the details of the selection process, indicating that "56 local and foreign films were received, which underwent careful sorting according to a theme that reflects the sacrifices of the Syrian revolution", resulting in a final list of "20 films, both narrative and documentary, long and short".
Dr. Tayara clarified that "there is a tendency to organize online seminars after screening some of the long films, where several filmmakers will participate directly or remotely to discuss their experiences".
In support of the cinematic movement, Abdo announced the "launch of a competition for the production of new short films eligible for support according to the available budget, within a studied mechanism supervised by specialized technical committees". He emphasized that "the door for cooperation is open to all Syrian filmmakers inside and outside the country", with "encouragement for private companies to involve youth in production projects".
Abdo confirmed that the aim of these steps is to "turn the page on the corruption that prevailed during the fallen regime, and open the door for new talents to present honest cinematic ideas that reflect the reality of Syrians".
The organization also extended "a special invitation to the families of martyrs and the relatives of the missing to attend the screenings", coordinating to program additional screenings in cultural centers across various governorates after the event; "to provide the opportunity for the largest possible segment of the audience to follow these works".
The director of the organization called on the audience at the end of the conference to participate in the event's activities, describing it as "a cinematic window that conveys the experience of the Syrian revolution with sincerity and depth".
