Syria Officially Requests the Surrender of Bashar al-Assad and Restructures Its International Relations Under New Leadership

The new Syrian leadership revealed new diplomatic trends focusing on transparency and reshaping foreign policy to serve national interests, during the official visit of Syrian President Ahmad al-Shara to the Russian capital, Moscow.
Mr. Ashhad Salibi, Deputy Director of the Russia and Eastern Europe Department at the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, stated that "President Ahmad al-Shara clearly requested during his meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin the surrender of 'the fugitive Bashar al-Assad'". This was mentioned during a media meeting last night, where he confirmed that the Russian side showed "clear understanding towards achieving transitional justice in Syria".
Salibi added that President al-Shara's visit to Russia aimed to "emphasize the restoration of coordination and cooperation with all countries", pointing out that Syria "is on the verge of reshaping its foreign policy in accordance with its national interests", and is working on "strengthening its relations with all countries and the international community".
The Syrian official noted that the new political leadership "adopts the principle of transparency in dealing with the Russia file", while ensuring to "inform the Syrian people of all updates". He confirmed that "all agreements between Damascus and Moscow will be rephrased to ensure the supreme interest of the Syrian people".
He also clarified that discussions between the two sides included "establishing new legal mechanisms for cooperation on wanted files and pending issues", in addition to "supporting the Syrian position in international forums". He confirmed the continuation of coordination with Moscow in the Security Council and the United Nations "to enhance Syria's presence and support its strategic interests".
It is worth mentioning that President al-Shara arrived in the Russian capital Moscow last Wednesday on an official visit focused on bilateral relations between the two countries, regional and international developments of mutual interest, in addition to discussions that included political and economic aspects and reconstruction files.
It is noted that former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad left for Russia after armed factions took control of power last December.
