Ismat Ramadan, the director of the National Center for Curriculum Development at the Ministry of Education, stated on Thursday that the center has officially begun working on developing Kurdish language curricula for various educational stages, following the formation of a specialized committee comprising linguistic and educational experts from several provinces.
He explained that the preparation, approval, and printing process will be completed within six months, so that the curricula will be ready for teaching at the beginning of the next academic year.
Ramadan added that this step is the first of its kind after the ministry tasked the center in accordance with the decision issued last Monday, implementing the executive instructions of Decree No. 13 for the year 2026 issued by President Ahmad al-Shara.
He pointed out that the committees have started their work by establishing general standards for the curricula, then breaking them down into detailed standards specific to each educational stage, after which the content will be prepared and sent for printing at the General Printing Institution in preparation for distribution to the relevant schools.
He confirmed that the new curricula will be consistent with the national curriculum framework and based on specialized scientific and academic foundations, emphasizing that teaching the Kurdish language comes within the context of enhancing cultural diversity within the framework of national unity.
He clarified that the subject will be taught in public and private schools in areas where Kurdish citizens make up a significant proportion, in coordination with the education directorates in the provinces.
