Egypt is experiencing a significant change in weather conditions with a strong return of winter atmospheres, following a period of relative warmth, as a cold wave begins to affect most parts of the country.
Notable Drop in Temperatures
Moderate weather is expected during the day in Greater Cairo and the Nile Delta, while it will be relatively warm in northern Upper Egypt and warmer in the southern parts of the country.
During the night, most areas will experience cool to cold weather, with a widening gap between maximum and minimum temperatures.
Warning of Cold Nights
Dr. Manar Ghanem, a member of the media center at the Egyptian Meteorological Authority, explained that the country is witnessing cold winter conditions with a notable drop in temperatures compared to previous days.
She pointed out that the weather will be cold on the northeastern and northwestern coasts and central Sinai, while temperatures may reach severe cold levels in Saint Catherine, with the possibility of frost in some desert areas and central Upper Egypt.
Winds Increasing the Cold Sensation
Most governorates are also experiencing a relative increase in wind activity, which enhances the feeling of cold weather, especially during the night.
Authorities have warned of the formation of dense fog in the early morning that may reach fog levels, leading to reduced horizontal visibility in the northern parts of the country, canal cities, Sinai, and even northern Upper Egypt.
Expected Rain at the Beginning of the Week
Dr. Ali Qutub, a climate professor at Zagazig University, stated that the country will experience cool weather during the day and very cold weather at night until the end of the week.
He added that chances of rain will appear on Monday and Tuesday in the northern parts of the country up to Greater Cairo and the Delta governorates, while heavy and thunderous rain may occur in Alexandria, Beheira, and Dakahlia governorates.
Expected Temperatures
Maximum temperatures are expected to reach around 18 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures will drop to around 8 degrees, with expectations that the peak drop will occur next Monday.
Advice for Citizens
Experts advised citizens to wear heavy winter clothing and not to be deceived by the temporary rise in temperatures during the day, in addition to being cautious while driving in the early morning due to fog and reduced visibility.
