Inside a luxurious apartment in one of the upscale neighborhoods of Cairo, one of the most controversial cases in the Egyptian media circles has been revealed. Security forces arrested the TV presenter and producer Sarah Khalifa on charges of drug trafficking, a case that shook the entertainment industry and the public together.
Preliminary information revealed that Sarah, who was previously linked to a well-known international football player who played for both Zamalek and Ahly clubs and the Egyptian national team, had turned her apartment into a drug distribution center.
As investigations escalated, it was found that the apartment was not just that, but was being used as one of the labs for mixing and preparing "synthetic cannabis," within a specialized criminal gang involved in trafficking this dangerous substance.
Investigations revealed that the elements involved in the network had brought in large quantities of raw materials used in manufacturing synthetic cannabis, and utilized two residential apartments in Cairo for this purpose, one of which belonged to the presenter.
Security forces managed to seize 200 kilograms of ready-to-distribute drugs, along with mixing and manufacturing equipment, a quantity of gold jewelry, huge amounts of local and foreign currencies, in addition to five cars that were part of the proceeds of this illegal activity.
The total value of the seized items was estimated at around 420 million Egyptian pounds, reflecting the enormity of the criminal network in which Sarah Khalifa, 31 years old, participated. She had started her professional career in television hosting before moving into the field of artistic production.
Investigations are still ongoing, attempting to uncover the media personality's partners and visitors to her home suspected of involvement in this network, amidst wide shock from her followers and the Egyptian media community.
