SANA: The electoral bodies in the Syrian provinces cast their votes to elect members of the People's Assembly

The Syrian news agency SANA reported that members of the electoral bodies in various Syrian provinces continued today to cast their votes to choose the new members of the People's Assembly, in the first elections held after the liberation, since the polling stations opened their doors at nine in the morning.
The agency mentioned that the electoral process witnessed a wide turnout and good organization, amid monitoring by representatives of diplomatic missions and ambassadors from several friendly countries at the polling stations in Damascus.
The head of the Supreme Election Committee, Mohammed Al-Ahmad, confirmed that the voting process is proceeding smoothly and transparently in all provinces, noting that extensions were made in some major centers to give all voters the opportunity to cast their votes.
Committee spokesperson Nawar Najma added that counting operations began in several electoral districts, with final results to be announced at a later press conference.
For their part, the governors of Damascus, its countryside, Daraa, Latakia, and Homs confirmed that the elections represent an important national entitlement and a step towards building the new state institutions, pointing to the wide participation of members of the electoral bodies.
According to SANA, the number of candidates reached 1,578 candidates across 50 electoral districts, competing for 210 seats according to presidential decrees No. (66) and (143) for the year 2025, while one-third of the council members will be appointed by a decision from the President of the Republic.
