The Russian Ministry of Transport announced on Thursday the resumption of operations at Krasnodar International Airport, one of the most prominent airports in the south of the country, after it was closed since February 2022 due to security risks associated with the Russian military operation in Ukraine.
According to an official statement published via the "Telegram" platform, the airport is now open to air traffic starting from September 11 at 9 AM Moscow time, in a move aimed at expanding mobility options for local residents and businesses, as well as boosting tourism in the Azov Sea and Black Sea resorts.
The decision was made based on a recommendation from a working group affiliated with the Russian Civil Aviation Agency "Rosaviatsiya", after completing renovation works at the airport facilities, including updating the front areas and aircraft taxiways.
Krasnodar Airport is the third airport to resume operations among the 11 airports that were closed in southern Russia since the start of the war, following Elista Airport in May 2024 and Gelendzhik Airport last July, both of which have received tens of thousands of travelers since their reopening.
