Riyadh Supports France's Recognition of Palestine and Calls for Similar Steps from the World

In a new stance reflecting the growing international support for the Palestinian cause, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia welcomed French President Emmanuel Macron's announcement of his country's intention to officially recognize the state of Palestine, considering this direction a historic step reflecting a growing global consensus on the Palestinians' right to self-determination.

In a statement issued by the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Kingdom praised the French step, affirming its support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with its capital in East Jerusalem.

It clarified that such decisions embody the international community's commitment to the principles of justice and decisions of international legitimacy.

Saudi Arabia also reiterated its call for other countries that have not yet recognized the state of Palestine to take similar steps that enhance peace opportunities and support the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

In the same context, the Palestinian Vice President appreciated Saudi Arabia's role in pushing for this French recognition, noting the Kingdom's continuous support in international forums for Palestine and its just cause.

The Saudi statement did not fail to emphasize its firm stance against Israeli policies that contradict international law, as the Kingdom condemned an Israeli call to impose sovereignty over the West Bank, considering it a blatant violation of UN resolutions, and calling for the international community to bear its responsibilities towards these practices.

This development comes amid a worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where images from the northern sector, specifically from Beit Lahia on July 20, 2025, depicted the suffering experienced by Palestinians in the face of hunger and siege, adding a poignant humanitarian dimension to hasten international recognition of their right to an independent state.
