Report: Trump's announcement of lifting sanctions on Syria surprises the US administration.

Reuters agency revealed that the decision by U.S. President Donald Trump to lift sanctions on Syria came as a surprise to some officials within his administration, including senior officials from the Departments of State and Treasury.
According to four informed American officials, senior officials in both departments rushed to understand the mechanism of lifting the sanctions, especially since some had been in place for decades.
A senior U.S. official clarified to the agency that the White House did not give any prior instructions to sanctions officials in the State and Treasury Departments to prepare for this step, nor were they informed of any imminent announcement by the president on this matter.
Following the announcement, a state of confusion prevailed within the U.S. administration, as officials faced challenges in determining which sanctions would be eased and the timelines for implementation, according to Reuters.
The same official mentioned that senior officials in both departments remained unsure of how to proceed until the moment Trump met with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday.
On the other hand, one American official told the agency: "Everyone is trying to figure out how to implement it," referring to Trump's sudden announcement.
In this context, a spokesperson for the U.S. State Department told "Syria TV" channel that the sanctions imposed by the White House would be lifted immediately, while the sanctions imposed by Congress would take longer to be lifted.
