A statement issued by the Chinese Embassy in Washington stated that Beijing urged the United States on Friday to end "discriminatory restrictions" against it and for both sides to "jointly abide by the consensus reached in high-level talks in Geneva."

This statement came hours after US President Donald Trump criticized China, saying it had "completely violated" the preliminary agreement reached in Switzerland two weeks ago to defuse the trade war between the world's two largest economies.

Embassy spokesperson Liu Pengyu said: "Since the economic and trade talks between China and the United States in Geneva, both sides have maintained communication on their concerns in the economic and trade fields through bilateral and multilateral events at various levels."
