Real Madrid continued its strong performances in the current season of La Liga, achieving its fifth consecutive victory after defeating Espanyol 2-0 on Saturday evening at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, in the fifth round of La Liga.
The Brazilian defender Eder Militao scored the first goal in the 22nd minute with a powerful shot from outside the penalty area, settling into the upper left corner of goalkeeper Marco Dmitrovic's net, giving his team an early advantage.
At the beginning of the second half, French star Kylian Mbappe extended Real's lead with a second goal after an assist from Vinicius Junior, which Mbappe accurately shot towards the lower left corner, confirming the superiority of the home team.
With this victory, Real Madrid raised its tally to 15 points at the top of the standings, leading by five points over Espanyol and Barcelona, noting that the latter has only played four matches so far, and will face Getafe on Sunday.
