As the blessed month of Ramadan approaches, the United Arab Emirates has launched a wide range of humanitarian initiatives with a global dimension, reaffirming its commitment to instilling values of compassion and solidarity, and enhancing its relief presence in crisis areas around the world, according to the Emirates News Agency "WAM".
Campaign to Save 5 Million Children from Hunger
As part of his annual tradition, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, launched the "11.5: The Limit of Life" campaign, which aims to save 5 million children from hunger worldwide.
The campaign focuses on children in the most vulnerable communities, particularly in disaster and conflict areas, amid alarming statistics indicating that 5 children under the age of five die every minute due to malnutrition. Individuals and institutions from various parts of the country are participating in the campaign.
1.5 Million Beneficiaries Inside and Outside the Country
For its part, the Emirates Red Crescent announced that its Ramadan programs this year will reach more than 1.5 million beneficiaries in the UAE and 44 countries around the world, at a cost exceeding 60 million dirhams.
The programs include: Ramadan food parcels, Iftar meals, Zakat al-Fitr, Eid clothing, and various relief projects, as part of ongoing efforts to alleviate the humanitarian situation in several countries.
Gaza at the Forefront of Priorities
The Gaza Strip is at the forefront of UAE charitable initiatives during Ramadan, as the humanitarian aid ship "Umm Al-Emarat" set sail on February 12, carrying over 7,300 tons of food, medical supplies, and shelter materials to support affected families.
Sheikh Hamid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, a member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman, also directed the launch of a humanitarian air bridge to Gaza as part of "Operation Brave Knight 3", to transport food parcels, health supplies, and urgent basic needs.
The operation continues to send relief convoys to the sector, reaffirming the UAE's commitment to delivering humanitarian and medical support regularly during the holy month.
Support for Children with Limb Loss
The "Big Heart Foundation" announced the launch of the second edition of the "For Olive Children" campaign, to provide prosthetic limbs and comprehensive rehabilitation services for more than a thousand Palestinian children with limb loss in Gaza, including rehabilitation therapy and psychological and social support.
90 Charitable Projects in Mauritania
In Mauritania, a delegation from the Global Humanitarian Action Authority has arrived to implement 90 charitable projects in the most needy villages, including mosque maintenance, well drilling, food parcel distribution, and Zakat projects, in line with the objectives of the holy month.
"Feed a Child and Build a Kitchen": An Initiative Towards Sustainable Food
Dubai Cares, part of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, launched its Ramadan campaign under the slogan "Feed a Child and Build a Kitchen", to support an environmentally friendly school meals program in Kenya, paving the way for expansion into Sub-Saharan African countries.
The initiative comes amid data indicating that over 90% of children in Africa lack a balanced diet, while 60% of children in Kenya suffer from malnutrition, negatively impacting their school attendance and academic performance.
Through these multiple initiatives, the UAE continues to solidify its humanitarian presence globally, prioritizing the fight against hunger and support for the most vulnerable groups during the blessed month of Ramadan.
