The crisis of Lebanese artist Ragheb Alama with the Egyptian Musicians Syndicate continues and becomes more complicated, despite his recent tweet hinting at a near resolution of the crisis.
In a new development, Ragheb failed to attend the investigation session that was scheduled for last week at the syndicate's headquarters in downtown Cairo, following the violations observed during his last concert in the North Coast of Marsa Matrouh Governorate.
A source from within the Musicians Syndicate revealed in a special statement that the syndicate's council insisted on Ragheb Alama's attendance for the investigation, but his absence complicated the situation with the council members, who decided to prevent the artist from holding any further concerts in Egypt until he undergoes the official investigation.
The source added that Ragheb informed the syndicate of his inability to attend due to his commitment to artistic events outside Egypt at the same time, which prevented him from canceling or postponing those obligations.
In a related context, Ragheb Alama is scheduled to hold a new concert in the North Coast on August 18, but the Musicians Syndicate has not yet granted the necessary permit to hold the concert, emphasizing the need for Ragheb to undergo the investigation first before issuing a decision regarding his artistic status in Egypt.
Mustafa Kamel, the head of the Egyptian Musicians Syndicate, had issued a decision to prevent Ragheb Alama from singing in Egypt and referred him for investigation, following the last concert that witnessed video clips that sparked controversy due to what some considered a departure from the norms and traditions followed in musical concerts.
The crisis remains suspended between its two parties amid anticipation for the next session that may determine the fate of Ragheb Alama's presence in the Egyptian artistic scene.
