Rafah Crossing Records Daily Passage of 150 Palestinian Patients to Egypt for Treatment

A source from the Egyptian side of the Rafah crossing reported that about 150 Palestinian patients will cross daily from the Gaza Strip to Egypt for treatment, as part of new arrangements that regulate the movement of the border crossing after a long period of closure.

Details of the Initial Crossing

The source indicated that 12 patients and 7 companions crossed the crossing on Monday, the first day of the official resumption of operations, while the second group of patients arrived at the crossing, and it is expected that today 50 Palestinians who completed their treatment in Egyptian hospitals will return to the Gaza Strip.

Diseases and Cases Benefiting from the Crossing

The authorities clarified that all cases allowed to cross suffer from serious diseases, including chronic illnesses and shrapnel injuries resulting from the war, making the crossing a vital lifeline for patients in need of medical care.

International Regulatory Mechanism for the Crossing

The crossing of patients is organized according to agreed arrangements that allow 150 people to leave Gaza daily, in exchange for the entry of 50 people from Egypt into Palestinian territories.

The European Union Border Assistance Mission (EUBAM) manages the crossing in coordination with Egypt, where Egyptian authorities send a daily list of individuals wishing to return to Gaza for security screening by Israel, while the European mission provides a list of those departing to Egypt for approval or rejection.
