A humanitarian aid convoy began entering the Gaza Strip today, Sunday, October 12, 2025, through the Rafah crossing.
According to journalists, 400 trucks loaded with food, medical, and humanitarian aid moved at six o'clock in the morning (03:00 GMT) from the Egyptian Rafah crossing towards the Karem Abu Salem and Al-Auja crossings, in preparation for distribution inside the sector.
In the first hour of the crossing opening, 90 trucks crossed from the Egyptian side to the Karem Abu Salem and Al-Auja crossings, and it is expected that the flow of aid will continue throughout the day.
This marks the entry of aid through the Al-Auja crossing for the first time since March 2025, due to the significant increase in the number of trucks being brought into the sector.
In an important step, coordination has been made to open the Rafah crossing from the Palestinian side next Tuesday to receive the wounded and injured from Gaza, in addition to Palestinians, foreigners, and holders of dual nationalities, as well as those stranded in Egypt.
It is worth noting that this aid comes at a sensitive time, as an agreement was reached between Israel and Hamas regarding the first phase of U.S. President Donald Trump's plan to end the ongoing war for two years.
The war has resulted in the death of about 70,000 Palestinians and the destruction of a large part of the infrastructure in Gaza.
In this context, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) described the situation in northern Gaza, on the eve of the ceasefire, as "catastrophic," as famine has been declared in the area for two months, and this area has been deprived of food aid for nearly a month.
This aid is considered an important step towards alleviating the suffering of the people of Gaza, who are facing harsh humanitarian conditions due to the ongoing conflict.
