After the historic defeat of 5-2 against their neighbor Atletico Madrid, Florentino Perez, the president of Real Madrid, issued a strong warning to the team's coach Xabi Alonso, threatening him with dismissal if similar results occur again.
Real Madrid lost heavily with a score of 5-2 against Atletico, in the seventh round of the Spanish league, marking the largest defeat against their neighbor since 1950.
Despite this setback, Perez expressed his confidence in Alonso's ability to lead the team, considering this defeat merely a temporary stumble that does not take the club or the coach off the right path.
However, Perez's warning was not without a clear threat, as he indicated that any further heavy defeat in an important match could drastically change the management's stance towards the coach.
This warning comes after another difficult test in which the team also failed, as Real Madrid suffered a harsh defeat against Paris Saint-Germain with a score of 4-0 in the Club World Cup held in the United States.
Xabi Alonso has been in charge of Real Madrid since the beginning of the current season, succeeding Italian Carlo Ancelotti, who is now the coach of the Brazilian national team.
The harsh defeat against Atletico sparked a wave of criticism both inside and outside the club, amid questions about Alonso's ability to correct the team's course under the immense pressure he faces.
