Partners in Construction.. Syrian President Ahmad al-Shara' Inspects the Progress of Parliamentary Elections in Damascus

Syrian President Ahmad al-Shara' visited the National Library electoral center in Damascus today, Sunday, to follow up on the electoral process to select members of the first People's Assembly in the new era, in the presence of several ambassadors and journalists.
Al-Shara' emphasized in a speech before the attendees that what Syria has achieved in recent months in the electoral process "is a significant accomplishment, although it is not yet complete, but it is consistent with the current circumstances and the transitional phase the country is going through".
The Syrian president added that building Syria is a collective mission that requires the participation of all citizens, stressing the need for the upcoming People's Assembly to include "the best sons of the homeland capable of moving forward in the process of construction and reform".
Al-Shara' clarified that there are important laws pending that need the new council's vote, affirming that the wheel of legislation will turn quickly in the next phase, with an emphasis on transparency and governmental accountability.
According to observers, these elections are the first democratic entitlement after the fall of the previous regime last December, and they represent the official beginning of the new Syrian era.
