In an event described as the largest in the history of modern museums, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi will witness the official opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum this evening, Saturday, with the participation of 79 official delegations from various countries around the world, including 39 delegations led by kings, princes, and heads of states and governments.

The statement issued by the presidency describes this opening as "an exceptional event in the history of culture and human civilization," affirming that the museum represents "Egypt's gift to the world" and a testament to the country's pioneering role in preserving human heritage.

* An Architectural Masterpiece Overlooking the Pyramids

The museum is located at the gateway to history, close to the Giza Pyramids, and its construction took more than 20 years, with costs exceeding one billion dollars.

It features a contemporary design that combines heritage and modernity, and includes massive exhibition halls and stone and glass facades that provide visitors with a stunning panoramic view of the pyramids.

* The Fourth Pyramid and the Statue of Ramses

The facade is designed to serve as the "fourth pyramid," while visitors are greeted in the museum's atrium by the statue of King Ramses II, which stands 11 meters tall and weighs 83 tons, making it the iconic entrance and a symbol of Pharaonic grandeur.

* Treasures of Tutankhamun Under One Roof

The museum is the first of its kind to gather the complete collection of King Tutankhamun, where visitors will be able to see 4,500 funerary pieces out of 5,000, in a comprehensive display that includes the famous golden mask, the three nested coffins, and the young king's daily life tools, within a unique hall that narrates the saga of the golden pharaoh.

* The Solar Boats and the Kings' Staircase

Among the museum's most notable artifacts is the solar boat of King Khufu, the largest and oldest wooden artifact in history, measuring 43.5 meters in length.

A separate building of 4,000 square meters has been dedicated to it, allowing visitors to view its amazing details through a glass wall.

The grand staircase at the heart of the museum is adorned with massive statues of ancient Egyptian kings, guiding visitors on a visual journey that spans from prehistoric times to the Greco-Roman era, across more than 50,000 square meters of exhibits and 12 main halls.

* A Majestic Global Presence

Kings, princes, and presidents from more than 30 countries are participating in the opening, including from Belgium, Spain, Denmark, Jordan, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Oman, Japan, and Thailand, along with the presidents of Germany, Portugal, Armenia, Croatia, Lebanon, Greece, Hungary, the Netherlands, and Kuwait.

Representatives from the Arab League, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the African Union are also attending, in addition to leaders from the United Nations and the Japanese JICA agency, along with several prominent global cultural and artistic figures, including Egyptian artist Sherihan.

* Economy and Tourism at the Heart of the Scene

This opening comes after years of postponement due to regional events and the COVID-19 pandemic.

With its completion today, Egypt is betting on the museum to be a new driver for cultural tourism, expecting to welcome more than 5 million visitors annually.

The Egyptian tourism sector recorded revenues of $14.4 billion in the fiscal year 2023-2024, an increase of 34.6%, while the number of visitors reached 15 million tourists in just nine months, with expectations to exceed 17.8 million tourists by the end of 2025.

* The Museum of the 21st Century

The museum does not only display artifacts but also offers a comprehensive system that includes research and restoration centers, libraries, restaurants, and shopping areas, in a blend that combines Egyptian identity with the spirit of the future.

President Sisi stated that the museum's opening should be "an event worthy of Egypt's greatness and civilization," while Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly affirmed that "the whole world is awaiting what Egypt will present on this historic day."
