Official American Investigation into the Safety of 2.88 Million Self-Driving "Tesla" Vehicles

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) launched an extensive investigation involving nearly 2.88 million vehicles from "Tesla", following reports indicating serious traffic violations associated with the "full self-driving" technology.
In a statement from the administration on Thursday, it was noted that the investigation comes as a result of "vehicle behaviors that violate traffic safety laws" caused by the system. The agency confirmed that the mentioned system, classified as a "driver assistance system", requires the driver's attention and readiness for immediate intervention when necessary in its basic design.
Preliminary investigations revealed incidents where "Tesla" cars ran through red traffic lights and even drove in the opposite direction during lane changes, while the "full self-driving" system was activated. The agency is working to assess the prevalence of these behaviors and the potential risks arising from them.
