A new step for Netflix in cinematic technology
Netflix has announced its acquisition of the AI startup InterPositive, founded by American actor and director Ben Affleck, in a move aimed at developing modern technologies that support the film industry and provide content creators with more advanced tools.
Netflix has announced its acquisition of the AI startup InterPositive, founded by American actor and director Ben Affleck, in a move aimed at developing modern technologies that support the film industry and provide content creators with more advanced tools.
Under the deal, Affleck will join Netflix as a Senior Advisor in Creative Innovation, along with the entire team of the company moving to work within the platform. Netflix did not disclose the financial value of the acquisition.
Affleck: Technology Must Protect Creativity
Affleck explained that the establishment of InterPositive was aimed at finding a balance between technological advancement and preserving the essence of creativity in the film industry.
He stated that technology has always been a part of the evolution of cinematic art, adding that collaboration with Netflix represents a "natural step" given the platform's expertise in developing technical tools and expanding their use responsibly.
AI Tools to Support Filmmakers
The idea for the company dates back to 2022 when Affleck began working with a team of engineers and researchers to develop AI-based tools to help filmmakers accelerate production processes and improve efficiency.
The technology developed by InterPositive relies on an AI model capable of understanding visual logic and scene continuity, allowing it to address production issues such as missing shots or adjusting backgrounds and lighting without affecting the actors' performance or the quality of the scene.
The tool also allows directors to upload daily shooting footage to train the model and improve its performance according to each film project.
Netflix: The Goal is to Support Creators, Not Replace Them
Amid the growing debate in Hollywood over the use of AI in filmmaking, Netflix has confirmed that these technologies are designed to support content creators, not replace them.
Bela Bajaria, the company's Head of Content, stated that the platform aims to expand the creative freedom of directors and producers by providing them with additional tools to have greater control over their work.
Ongoing Collaboration Between Affleck and Netflix
Ben Affleck has a long-standing working relationship with Netflix, as his production company Artists Equity signed an exclusive deal with the platform to produce several film projects.
Netflix is also preparing to release his new film Animals in the near future, featuring actresses Kerry Washington and Gillian Anderson.
