The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that the ongoing negotiations with Syria are continuing, but they are conditional on ensuring Israel's interests, including disarmament in southwestern Syria and ensuring the security and safety of the Druze community.
The statement came after previous remarks by Netanyahu in which he confirmed progress regarding a security agreement with Damascus, emphasizing that the signing of any agreement is not imminent.
In a related context, former Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz expressed his support for security negotiations with Syria under American sponsorship, stressing the need for Israel to maintain strategic points to protect the residents of the Golan, freedom of action to confront threats, and to protect the Druze and allies.
For his part, Syrian President Ahmad al-Shara told the United Nations General Assembly that Syria is regaining its international status, criticizing Israel's policy which he described as a continuous threat since the fall of Bashar al-Assad, affirming his country's commitment to the disengagement agreement of 1974 and calling on the international community to support the sovereignty and unity of Syrian territories.
